We have just about caught up on sleep and got over the jet lag, but still getting up early. It was a Saturday and Ryan had gone off to work early. A full day awaited us after Ryan got back at midday
So Claire and us started off the day by heading to Kettleman's for some bagel breakfast.

After a fat boys breakfast it was nearly time to hook up with Ryan and head off to The 1000 Islands.
Ryan is a manager at Enterprise Car Hire in Ottawa and so picked us up in a snazzy Ford Explorer , all jazzed up with the latest gizmos. In fact we didn't sus out some of the fancy stuff available until we got back to Ottawa. Anyway off we went and got there about mid afternoon. We had a spot of lunch at one of the boat tour joints near Gananoque, Ontario. Then onto a boat for a gentle cruise around the St Lawrence River and the surrounding islands.
The Thousand
Islands constitute a group of 1,864 islands that lies between the Canada–US border in the Saint
Lawrence River as it emerges from Lake Ontario. They stretch for about 80 km downstream
from Kingston,
Ontario. The Canadian islands are in the province
of Ontario and the U.S. islands in the state of New York. The waters that were once patrolled by pirates and Prohibition bootleggers are now cruised by cottagers. One of the islands is suppose to belong to the Yale University's Skull and Bones student society.

After our lovely trip around the St Lawrence River and the 1000 Islands, we went to the lovely home of Kristina and Tim in Kingston. They were so welcoming and their home on the edge of the river was beautiful. Tim and Kristina we such lovely hosts - we ate and drank all afternoon and evening with great company (Mark - Ryan's brother joined us later
) - my idea of a perfect evening. The platter of cheeses were delicious and the barbi later topped the day off. Thanks guys!
The city is located
halfway between Toronto and Montreal. European exploration
in the 17th century and the desire for the Europeans to establish a presence
close to local Native populations to control trade led to the founding of a French trading post and
military fort at a site known as "Cataraqui" in 1673. This outpost,
called Fort Cataraqui or Fort
Frontenac, became a focus for settlement. After the
British conquered New France, the village was renamed Kingston.
Memorable food and drink
Hot Montreal smoked meat , with honey mustard on a Kettleman's bagel, a whole load of glorious cheese at Kristina and Tim's.
Thought of the day
It's great how much food and drink tastes better when it is shared with friends.
